Course Cautions:
1. The course is open to vehicular traffic on the beach. You may use headphones, but be aware of your surroundings. There will be plenty of room for both runners and vehicles, but there won’t be much traffic at the time of the race.
2. As with running on any beach, tides will cause ripples or irregularities on the running surface. Sand is hard packed and very safe.
3. Jogging Strollers are allowed, but please be cautioned for the safety of your child: the beach surface is constantly changing with the tides and there will be dips and ruts. Be constantly aware and be prepared to slow considerably to avoid tipping the stroller or injuring your child.
Weather:
Temperature at start usually in the low 50's.
Prevailing sea breeze usually gives a headwind going toward San Luis Pass, and a tailwind on return to the finish.
Course Measurement:
The course is accurately measured by GPS.
Time Limit:
The marathon starts at 7AM this year, half at 8 AM. The race course officially closes at 1:30 PM, allowing 6 1/2 hours for marathoners to finish, and 5 1/2 hours for the half marathon to finish.
Walkers:
We welcome walkers in the half marathon, and it can easily be completed in 5 1/2 hours. Completing a full 26.2 mile marathon in 6 1/2 hours requires a substantial amount of it to be run.
Shirts, Medals, Awards:
1. Each participant and volunteer will receive a premium quality shirt. Many years we also have bonus additional award. (Last year it was an airline carry on bag with the Surfside Marathon logo).
2. Overall and Age group awards! Awards for include Overall and Masters Winners, and age groups up to 80's (yes our oldest finisher in prior years was 87).
3. Finisher Medal - Each finisher recieves a medal, which of course fits our Beach motif.

Aid Stations:
There will be water and Gatorade available at about 1.5 mile intervals. Portable toilets are located at each aid station and at the start/finish of the race.
